TECS 390 Summer 2008

Technology is Opening Minds with a New Set of Keys

After you have used Twitter for a bit of time and are following some folks----
Snitter: http://getsnitter.com/
Twitterific: http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific or
Twitbin: http://www.twitbin.com/---(works with your browser- I really find this easy)

Choose to follow me, some of the podcasters we are listening to and look who I follow and follow some of them. Right now I follow 276 and add all the time. I always have one of the above open on my computer.

Go to the main Classroom 2.0 (http://www.classroom20.com) site and look at the microblogging category, you find lots of teachers talking about it. There is even an Ed Tech Talk podcast with teachers discussion how they are using Twitter.

Give us your twitter account and tell us what you think.

I have never heard of twitter, snitter, twitterific (and all the others) before I now. To be honest, I first found it frustrating, but the more I visit it, and figure things out, I think I will begin to like it. I can see using it as a source to find other things that I am not aware of that can be useful in my classroom. I have seen Cyndi use it, as she has so kindly demonstrated to me, and I think it's easier than I have been making it. But yes, I will definitely want to keep up with it. Especially now, since I am following several other people! If you would like to check it out, here is my site: http://twitter.com/AmyBrungardt

I agree with Amy on the frustration part of beginning to use twitter, but learning anything new can be frustrating! Yet another website to become familiar with and use throughout this summer and beyond. I think it can be used in a wide variety of situations, once I initially learn to use it! =) --Katie G.

I enjoy finding new programs and ways that I can incorporate them into the classroom. I had never heard of twitter and the others before. I feel like this will be a handy tool and the more that I use it, the easier it becomes and the more I learn!

I agree with Amy and Katie about it being frustrating. I think that it seems like it would be a lot of fun to use, kind of like text messaging!

Welcome, all of you to twitter. When you first start using it, it seems silly and confusing. But give it time. Keep coming back to it. If you sign up and then never check on the people you are following, then you won't quite understand how it works. And if you only follow people new to twitter, then you won't get much information from it. So the trick is - follow lots of people (create a large network) and check in often.

I am lparisi on twitter.

I love Twitter. When I started using it (about the same time as Lisa Parisi), I instantly fell in love. It was a slingshot to my learning educational technology. Now it was up to me to be sure I was able to not just sample the tools and blogs they were talking about, but to actually figure out a way to seamlessly integrate those tools into my classroom.

It was the first time I was taking tools to my kids for them to try rather than them bringing ideas to me! We were able to take each other further in our learning! yay!

BTW: I'm GingerTPLC there and in Skype. Feel free to follow! Just be sure to put a little about yourself on the profile so we can tell if we will find value in following you back! ;-) Some people do equal follow:follow, but I can't. And that's ok. Twitter needs to be leveraged for YOUR use, and not harnessed by the rules of others.

I like Twhirl because I'm on a PC and Twhirl makes noise. I need the noise. I only follow people who show who they are or I know. Anyone who does not @name is not contributing to conversations, so I won't follow them. Anyone who does not have a blog, a website, or an identity is not worth following either. I always deny commercial sites. I follow a very select few students, most of whom I have met f2f. I choose not to follow people who choose to use inappropriate language - I can't feel comfortable showing twitter to someone else if there is someone there using bad language.
Why use twitter? Because it is a 24/7 connection to my global network. I learn with my network, I query with my network, & I participate with my network. Here's a post I wrote about Twitter: The Power of the Twitterverse

Great post, In fact getting responses in this ning site because of a twitter post. I just love twitter, but found it is most useful when using one of the clients (twitterfic or snitter, or twitbin). Like you I learn from my network.

I think i am apart of the concensus-I find it frustrating, but I am just taking time to get used to it. I have to admit, I will keep at it and I know it will get more interesting.
