TECS 390 Summer 2008

Technology is Opening Minds with a New Set of Keys

After you have used Twitter for a bit of time and are following some folks----
Snitter: http://getsnitter.com/
Twitterific: http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific or
Twitbin: http://www.twitbin.com/---(works with your browser- I really find this easy)

Choose to follow me, some of the podcasters we are listening to and look who I follow and follow some of them. Right now I follow 276 and add all the time. I always have one of the above open on my computer.

Go to the main Classroom 2.0 (http://www.classroom20.com) site and look at the microblogging category, you find lots of teachers talking about it. There is even an Ed Tech Talk podcast with teachers discussion how they are using Twitter.

Give us your twitter account and tell us what you think.

everything takes practice, you will get it if you keep after it and eventually with time, everything will become easier. The trick is to install one of the desktop clients discussed and set it to automatically log you in when you open you computer. Make sure you follow many of the folks I follow, that way you will learn form them just like I learn from them.

I think this will make a great tool for the classroom. I'm not sure how I will use it, I am still trying to figure out how it works. I have gone through most of the tutor sites and still confused on how to follow people and how they follow me. I will continue to work on this and hopefully a light will eventually come on.

I've used it in the classroom this year on a globally collaborative story. Each student was allowed to only add 140 characters. Some ended in the middle of sentences (yes!) and one finished out the chapter. Here's a link to the Twitter account that holds all our stuff.

First, it allowed us to learn how to write following what others have posted before, and secondly, it allowed me to saunter down an avenue with my kids, considering the lack of geographic constraints to the project and how else we could leverage the learning opportunities.

Here is a link to the wiki with the results of our work. You can also buy the book that was created due to this collaboration! :D How fun is that?! Incidentally, my students wrote chapter 5, if you were wondering...

Hello!! I, along with a lot of others, was also frustrated with Twitter when I initially began using it. The more I tinker with the site, the more I learn and the more I like it! I must say that I really am beginning to enjoy it! I enjoy following other people, and am learning so much!

O.k. o.k.! I get it now. Twitter is a good tool for me. I can now follow my favorites and view the information quickly and see that there is alot of good resources out there. I found a great guy to follow who is specifically helpful to me in the area of middle school education. I can't wait to use some of his sites and intergrate them into my teaching.

I am using Twitter mainly to just follow along and see what others are coming up with. I think that this could be a really handy tool for the classroom since I can access other peoples ideas but since I am still new to the program and having difficulty navigating my way through it I have not gotten a lot out of it yet.

I agree with many of my other classmates. I found twitter to be very challenging and not very user friendly. It could just be that it is something new. I had to type in each of the people that you wanted us to follow and it was very time consuming. I also am not very sure how to maneuver through the sight and/or how to use it. I think that there are other programs/sites that I prefer over this one. Although it is very amusing and informative to just view other people's comments and blogs.
