TECS 390 Summer 2008

Technology is Opening Minds with a New Set of Keys

Lisa Stevens is a Primary Language teacher who uses puppets to teach Spanish to her students. She shows you all her puppets (finger, hand, and head) and explains how she uses them. Lisa shares that by using the puppets, it takes away the children's anxiety of not knowing the language. They are so engaged with the puppets that they can learn. She also has the students create their own sock puppet in which they leave in their desk until needed. They themselves then use the puppet when speaking Spanish in the class.

I was looking for a video that I (or any teacher) could use in the classroom to teach students Spanish. But I happened to stumble upon this video and really appreciated it. I was intrigued by her use of puppets to catch the children's attention and help them to love learning the language! This video has made me want to buy my own puppets and begin practicing with them!
